Launch of the RESILCROPS Project: Research for More Sustainable Agriculture agricultureure

La Laguna, October 30, 2025. – With the presence of Alejandro Molowny, Island Director of Waste Management at the Cabildo de Tenerife; Antonio Aparicio Juan, Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of La Laguna (ULL); and Tomás Martín, Director of the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC), the RESILCROPS project was officially launched. This international initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of agriculture in the European Atlantic region through solutions based on the principles of the circular economy.

The event took place at the Laguna Gran Hotel, in the city of La Laguna, and gathered researchers from Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and France, representing various academic and scientific institutions.

During the presentation, Andrés Borges, principal investigator and coordinator of the project and researcher at IPNA-CSIC, outlined the organization, objectives, and transversal approach of RESILCROPS, which focuses on fostering knowledge transfer and the efficient use of natural resources to promote more sustainable agriculture.

Following his address, representatives from the different research groups participating in the consortium presented their contributions:

  • Bertrand Thollas (French company POLYMARIS)
  • Aschwin Hillebrand (University of Algarve, Portugal)
  • Imelda Casey (SETU University, Ireland)

Alejandro Molowny, Island Director of Waste Management, highlighted “the importance of initiatives that promote a circular economy based on the reuse of waste,” while reaffirming the Cabildo de Tenerife’s commitment to supporting transversal projects of this kind.

Meanwhile, Vice-Rector Antonio Aparicio Juan emphasized RESILCROPS as an example of effective research and knowledge transfer between academic institutions, underlining the value of international collaboration.

Finally, Tomás Martín, Director of IPNA-CSIC, thanked the IPNA team for their efforts in securing funding for this international project and recognized the collaboration of partner institutions such as the University of La Laguna and the Spanish Bank of Algae, based in Las Palmas.
